escapades: cfda awards winner

My dedication to Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen has been a devout one. Not only did I consider them relatable in my younger years, but as my style started to emerge as I grew I found I constantly pulled inspiration from the trendsetting sisters.

Flash forward ten years later.

Last night, Mary-Kate & Ashley won Designer of the Year at the annual CFDA Awards (the Super Bowl of the fashion world) for their luxury label, The Row. As demented as my logic might be, I feel a since of pride for the two as they won, beating out those whom are considered to be equally-esteemed. The Olsens have finally proven themselves as legitimate, cutting-edge designers & I'm having to question whether or not these are the same girls who were Michelle Tanner.

I love The Row because every piece that derives from any given collection always has one underlying theme: classic.

escapades: the met gala 2012

The annual Costume Institute Gala held at the Metropolitan Museum of art [a.k.a. "the met gala"/"fashion's prom"/"new york's oscars"] was held last night, & I was hooked to the live coverage like Anna Wintour will be when she's in a rocker.

The Met Gala is known for its large spectrum of attire: both outrageous & simple. There are no rules when it comes to fashion's biggest event of the year. What I love about the event is that you really get to see what celebrities & the fashion elite want to wear all the time without the criticism

Although I would love to wear a bright yellow peplum & feathered skirt to class on the reg, if I still want friends I must refrain & live vicariously through the starlets below.

 However---
that's not to say you can't take a hint of inspiration these fashionistas. Here's how to wear their over-the-top looks for a day-to-day outfit that's completely society-acceptable.

escapades: coachella 2012

Do you know what it's like to receive an email from an international publication asking if you're available to cover a week of Coachella fashion for their style segment & having to say "no" because you're an 18 credit-hour student whose accounting professor refuses to make a mandatory final date not-so-mandatory?

Well I do.

& even though I'm still [a little] bitter, I'm combating my urge to boycott the exam all-together by lusting over maxi-skirts, retro sun glasses & swimwear that doubles as rain gear/sweat sponges.

Coachella fashion has become so iconic, that a lot of times I forget it's a music festival [I know, shame on me.] But, in my defense, aren't trends & tunes synonymous with one another? A lot of times, the music I listen to in the morning influences what I end up wearing for the day. So, why shouldn't you dress show-specifically this weekend? I know I would totally plan an outfit on the bands I'd be seeing.

Here's three shows I wish I were seeing & the clothes I wish I would be wearing.

awolnation & mustard/metallic mix
+
Blame it on their raving SXSW reviews, or my love for a great progressive keyboard intro, but AWOLNATION is a must-see for any Coachella-goer this weekend. Pair their deep vocals & high/low beats with black metallics & mustard accents.
Catch them: April 14th/21st
{contents} collar necklace: topshop + tank: billabong + sunglasses: house of harlow 1960
cross body: urban outfitters + shredded shorts: nasty gal + studded sandals: steve madden

grouplove + pink/punk pair
+
The first time I heard Grouplove I may or may not have been engaging in less-than-innocent activities. & since, whenever I hear "Tongue Tied" I can't help but think of basement parties, solo cups & lots of hair going lots of everywhere. Their entire album is full of sweet vibes complemented by guitar rushes with a sexy, girly twist. Pretty much, it screams "find American flag shorts & never take them off."
Catch them: April 13th/20th
{contents:} sunglasses: ray ban + denim zip bralet: topshop + cambridge satchel: asos
ankle boots: belstaff + american flag short: topshop

st. vincent & pastels/petals couple
+
St. Vincent's aesthetic switches between a whimsical, airy fairy-tale to psychedelic guitar riffs with no warning at all. Annie Clark's delicate voice leaves every ear wanting more, giving her audience dancing tunes or mellow melodies. Take a floral mini-dress to her show in support of her soft verses but match it with a sky-high heel to match her power choruses.
Catch them: April 14th/21st
{contents:} sparkle stud wrap: topshop + floral bow back dress: topshop + sunglasses: asos
pale crossbody: forever21 + shoes: asos

What bands are you excited to see [or livestream]
 &more importantly, what're you wearing.

escapades: sxsw

SXSW is in full swing which means two things: 1. Music festival season has officially begun & 2. We now have the perfect excuse to tailor new shopping trips for each one.

South By is every music lover's dream-- a week full of running around the city discovering your new favorite band, finally seeing a veteran performance & of course, eating lots & lots of tacos. Although I'm mega-bummed I couldn't join some friends who hit the open road & headed out west this week, I'm living vicariously [& jealously] through their tweets, Instagram photos & making many trips to the Mexican restaurant down the street.

However--
Just because I'm stuck listening to my Spotify version of the week [search "sxsw: twic by lj" for my favorites], it doesn't mean that I'm not dressing like I could be in the front row pit of Delta Spirit or partying at one of the lounges.

Here are my go-to looks for an Austin-inspired wardrobe
